Grief Share

For those who have recently lost a loved one, it may be hard for you to feel optimistic about the future right now, and you’ve probably found that there are not many people who understand the deep hurt you feel.

That’s the reason for GriefShare, a special seminar and support group for people grieving the loss of someone close. This group is sponsored by people who understand what you are experiencing and want to offer you comfort and encouragement during this difficult time.

Each one of GriefShare’s 13 sessions includes a DvD Session and Discussion of people who have experienced losses like yours, as well as small group discussion about what you’ve seen on the video. You are welcome to begin attending the group at any session. Each session is “self-contained” so you don’t have to attend in sequence.

If you are interested, please contact Connie Elzey.

Disciple Bible Study

Disciple Bible Study is an intensive course that emphasizes discipline reading of and listening to the scripture.  It results in biblically nourished persons committed to life as disciples.  Disciple began in The United Methodist Church in 1987.  Myers Memorial UMC graduated its first class of Disciple students in 1993. In May 2022, we celebrated a group of pilgrims who started before the pandemic and finished their goal in 2022! If you are interested in participating in a Disciple Class, please contact Connie Elzey.

The Michael McSween Memorial Scholarship is made available by the Myers Memorial United Methodist Men, Gastonia, North Carolina and fund administration is by a Scholarship Committee of the United Methodist Men.  A Scholarship Committee will grant annual scholarships of varying amounts to rising college freshmen who meet certain criteria.

United Women of Faith are sponsoring an exciting event for the entire family: A Festival of Trees! Join us November 19th immediately following worship for a soup lunch among beautifully decorated trees that will in turn bless Angel Tree recipients and support the mission of United Women of Faith. We’ll enjoy a light lunch of soup as we get into the spirit of Christmas! Contact Tanya Lunsford to offer your support (tlmartinm@gmail.com or 704-678-7122).
Would You Like to Decorate a Tree? We’d love to have at least 12 trees for older adult Angel Tree angels. This is perfect for families, friends, and small groups to participate together. Trees should be no taller than 4 feet and trees in their entirety will be donated at the end of the event. Simply contact Tanya to confirm your willingness to donate a tree. The CFC will be open on the Sat. prior from 9a to 12p. Please have all decorated trees set up in the CFC by Sunday, November 19 at 10a.
How Will We Raise Money for UWF? By voting for your favorite tree…with your money! One dollar equals one vote and the tree with the most votes at 1p on November 19, wins! Bring your cash or checks and place your votes during lunch or while you explore and shop the various vendors that will also be present.
How Else Can I Support This Event? By donating a pot of soup for lunch or a dessert to share, helping with set up and/or clean up, encouraging others to participate, inviting friends, by liking, sharing and commenting on the Facebook events.
